I'm Stickin To It!

My blog friend, Leah at  Six Blue Eyes been observing in schools.  She was amazed at the level of disrespect that she sees in classrooms.  I have no doubt that she will be a great teacher.
However, today I want to go on record as saying our children have serious issues with respect. I am in a mood, so get ready.  Fair warning, this does not cater to little self-esteems.
What is the deal with children being excused by their parents when they are disrespectful to authority?  Leah has observed in all kinds of different school settings and has noticed children in private schools are just as disrespectful as the children in public schools.
I am disturbed as a teacher that there are ANY children in school being disrespectful.  We have issues!!!!!!!!!!  Any thoughts?  BTW, you don't have to have a blog to respond.  We would love to hear from you too!

There is no excuse for it. But, I think it is because most parents have lost respect for anything. They don't respect morals, values, marriage...nothing is sacred anymore...and it trickles down to the children. So very sad. I knew I did not question or talk back to my parents or teachers. If I got in trouble at school...I was in even bigger trouble when I got home. And that is the way we raised our boys. Today, parents all seem to want to get their kids out of trouble, and they never have to suffer the consequences of their actions. Sad, sad, sad.

Girl, let me step up on my soapbox!! :) I agree with Tonja, completely! I was ALWAYS told, you get in trouble at school and you'll be in trouble at home! We live in a society with no regard or respect for anything. And we have parents who have completely catered to their children, never telling them no about anything and unfortunately they grow up expecting the same from everybody else! No wonder our economy is so messed up, we live in an instantaneous society that never waits for anything, no matter the consequences...except now, it's not mom and dad bailing them out, it's our government and ultimately us the taxpayers. (OK, I'm getting down now!!) If you're ever in Montgomery, I'd love to meet you! I think we're kindred spirits! :)

I agree with Tonja and Leah. It all starts with the parents! And it doesn't matter whether it's private school or public school. Trust me. I work in public education and I do have some very well mannered and sweet kids.

About that shirt, $20 is super pricey to me too! I am such a cheapskate. But since all the proceeds go to the non-profits they support is why I was considering it. And b/c it's cute of course.

Hi Andi,
The first time I read this post I couldn't even leave a comment. What is it with these irresponsible parents? It boils down to family and parents putting in the work. Like I said before, consistancy is the cornerstone of child-rearing and it is tough to do. It takes time and perserverance. The sins of sloth and pride keep parents from doing their job.
Whew! What a rant! Thank goodness I have Jesus in my life or things like rudeness and selfishness would drive me crazy.
